I use skype-out for my phone service. I don't want to use my cell, but ZBP disconnects each time i try and use it. Is there a rason for this?

If I remember right, Garret, the system doesn't accept skype out as to try and cut down on the number of phony user using multiple accounts.

Here's a suggestion...could they possibly link a Skype account to ZBP so that regular Skype users could call that account and use the system?

Yeah, I agree. I wanna use Skype too. And besides, don't you have to enter your pin?

I know you can't link a regular Skype account to our system. I tried to find a way, but there was no way to do it cheaply. NOt sure on the Skype Out, unless Chris did something.

chris made the zbp system so that as far as i'm aware it won't take any internet phone software accept sip unless you have a number which will be displayed when you call. a nd people that want to use skype, they need to be sat infront of computer, so why not just use sip enabled software such as SJPhone.

because that would require me to use a program that I really have no reason to use. Oh, and chris didn't know if you'd be able to get skype out to work, that's what his e-mail to me said at least.

I'd use sj phone, but it's blocked by my university's firewall. So, since I can't use zbp with skype, I just don't use it very often. It's too difficult for me to understand through a cell phone when in phone conferences, so I only use it for voicemail.

I just went to that site and from a very brief look, it doesn't appear to support Mac.

Ok, here's the deal. If you get a skype account, put some skypeout credit on your account, and try to make a call, the caller ID people get is 000-012-3456. Now, we all know that's not a real number. Sometimes you might see "private" or "unknown", but if you do see a number, tha'ts what you see. Now, if you sign into the skype web site, there is a way to link your mobile phone to skypeout. That way, when you call someone via skypeout, it looks like you're calling from your cell phone. If you do this, you can call zbp via skypeout. But you have to call zbp a few times before you can actually log in. The reason for this is that zbp's server doesn't respond fast enough. Skype can't get a connection fast enough, so it hangs up. But after a few attempts, you should be able to log in. Just expect the hang ups.

Could there possibly be a way to link Skype to Asterisk using the Skype API? C++ supports the instantiation of COM objects, so you could somehow instantiate a call object and get the Skype ID and use that as the caller ID for ZBP. Asterisk is open-source, so that modification could be made. Or, you could use a Skype-to-SIP adapter program, but I don't know of any right off hand.
